The opposite of eustress is dysstress – and that type of stress is very negative. This stress is perceived as very unpleasant and always occurs in the immediate face of a threat. We can think again, for example, of the world of work – there we are often asked to make superhuman efforts. Then we give more than we can actually and thus exceed our own limits. The result is a state in which we could explode at the smallest thing.
Anger destroys us and it can occur at any time. And when a little more effort is required of us, it triggers an explosive, emotional chain reaction in us that we can no longer keep under control.
Hypostress, on the other hand, always occurs when we are bored and when we lack motivation. This type of stress is very different from the others we’ve looked at so far. It is a type of stress that is not caused by a state of pressure, but by the exact opposite.
This type of stress afflicts restless and extremely creative people who are forced to perform repetitive actions. Such people then feel blocked and unable to do what is asked of them – for a variety of reasons. In such a state, such a person will experience stress. Because actually she has the need for new experiences and a need for a job that constantly requires new learning processes and that entails having new experiences.
