The Word “forget ” Is Unknown To The Heart

The word "forget" is unknown to the heart

Love for a partner, when it was really real, leaves an unstable hole; a memory that will always remain rooted in what is experienced and felt, where there is no place for forgetting.

Our feelings about what has made this love so strong will always be subjective. As long as it has lasted , it will seem short to us because we would have liked to have kept it alive longer and because its intensity is like a drug and makes us addicted.

The ecstasy into which love puts us makes everything appear beautiful, gives life more color and fills us with joy and vigor.

In this state there are no distances and no limits; everything is enchanted.

However, when love is lost or we no longer talk to each other, the idea of forgetting comes into play as a solution to being able to move on and not suffer all the time. However, we cannot control forgetting with our will.

In his book 20 Love Poems and a Song of Despair , in which he ponders the impossibility of forgetting, Pablo Neruda illustrates this very nicely in his 20th poem : I don’t love her anymore, that’s for sure, but maybe I love her. Love is so short and forgetting is so long.

The poem by Pablo Neruda

The following poem was written by Pablo Neruda and in it he brilliantly describes how difficult and painful it is to forget who you really loved someone:

I could write the saddest verses tonight

For example, I could write: “The night sky is full of stars,

and they tremble blue in the distance. “

The night wind circles in the sky and sings.

I could write the saddest verses tonight

And I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

On nights like this, I held her in my arms.

I kissed her so often under the canopy.

She loved me, and sometimes I loved her too.

How could I not have loved her big eyes either.

I could write the saddest verses tonight

Think I don’t have her anymore. Feel that I’ve lost her

Hear that immense night. Without it, it is much more immense.

And the verse falls from the soul like the morning dew from the grass.

What difference does it make that my love couldn’t hold her.

The night sky is full of stars and she is not with me.

That’s all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.

My soul is not satisfied with its loss.

I let my gaze wander so that she is closer to me.

My heart is looking for her, but she is not with me.

The night turns the trees gray.

We, from then, are no longer the same.

I don’t love her anymore, that’s for sure, but how much I loved her.

My voice sought the wind so that it could be heard.

Different. It will be different. Like before my kisses.

Her voice, her perfect body. Your infinite eyes.

I don’t love her anymore, that’s for sure, but maybe I love her.

Love is so short and forgetting is so long.

Because on nights like this, I held her in my arms.

My soul is not satisfied with its loss.

Even if it’s the last pain she’ll inflict on me

and these are the last verses I write to her.

The memories that love leaves will last forever. Neither time nor anger or discomfort or being with another person will allow us to forget.

In fact, it often happens that you try to find someone new to forget, but the result is usually not very good. Because we are only fooling ourselves and the other person.

Heart tree

The solution is not to forget

Moving on after it happens doesn’t really count as forgetting what you’ve been through. It’s more about accepting that every stage of life brings with it things that are irretrievable.

The only thing that really exists is our present, and in it lies the solution, depending on how we choose to place ourselves in it. We can take things from the past that help us in our present life by integrating them into it.

All experiences, good or bad, can no longer be changed; therefore we should learn as much as possible from them and include them in our experience.

Love gives us the opportunity to get to know each other better when we have gone through a phase that we would rather forget so that we don’t make the same mistakes again, with the same feelings that we didn’t take to heart.
